'Permission' spec granted

CBS Films picks up script from 'Legally Blonde' scribe

CBS Films has picked the Karen McCullah Lutz spec script "Permission." Jaret Entertainment's Seth Jaret is producing with Lutz.

The comedic story concerns a husband and wife who give each other permission to cheat on their separate weekend vacations. When one does and the other doesn't, everything changes when they come home.

Maria Faillace will oversee for CBS Films, which is hoping to making four to six movies a year with budgets up to $50 million each.

McCullah Lutz, repped by Paradigm and Jaret, is best known for co-writing "Legally Blonde" and "10 Things I Hate About You" with Kirsten Smith. The "Permission" sale comes on the heels of Adam Davidson coming board to direct the McCullah Lutz-penned "Long Time Gone," an adaptation of an April Stevens book, starring Christina Ricci and Josh Lucas.

Jaret exec produced "10 Things" and has horror thriller "Virulents" set up at Regency with Virgin Comics.
